7 can’t-miss Columbia Fireflies events this season. ⚾

Today is Major League Baseball Opening Day 2018, which got us thinking: Fireworks. Craft beer. Mason. A.k.a. what we love about Minor League ball.

It’s that time of the year again: Columbia Fireflies baseball season. ⚾ Opening Day is next Thursday, April 5 (and we’re lucky enough to hear the games from our back porch at SOCO... or just walk across the street for games when we get off work 💯).

While we’re excited for any chance to enjoy Spring weather outdoors at Spirit Communications Park with a hot dog in-hand, we’re especially pumped for some of the promos + new features for fans this year. Here are our 7 can’t-miss Fireflies games this season.

✔ Opening Day (also the first Thirsty Thursday)

📆 Thursday, April 5, 7:05 p.m.

🎟 tickets

It’s Opening Day, so you know the crowd is going to be just as hype as the end-of-game fireworks. Plus, Thirsty Thursday = half-priced beer + soft-drinks (including craft beer options like Columbia Craft Lager or Catawba’s White Zombie, both which pair perfectly with peanuts + cracker jacks). See the full beer list + where in the ballpark to find them on Untappd.

✔The first Wag-along Wednesday

📆 Wednesday, April 11, 7:05 p.m.

🎟 tickets

Every Wednesday, take your pups out to the ballgame to sit with you on the grassy Bojangles’ Berm. Just fill out this waiver beforehand. We’ve been, and it’s basically a magical @ColaTownPets meetup. (No fireworks this game, so no need for your Thunder Jacket.)

✔ UofSC vs. College of Charleston

📆 Wednesday, May 9, 7 p.m.

🎟 tickets

A really rare chance to watch Gamecock Baseball on the Fireflies field. UofSC will take on in-state rival, the CofC Cougars, on the neutral site of Spirit Communications Park. South Carolina will be the home team and will be in the 3rd base home dugout. Plus, it’s for a good cause: a portion of ticket sales will be donated to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.

✔ Memorial Day Weekend series vs. Greenville Drive

📆 Friday-Monday, May 25-28

🎟 tickets: Friday / Saturday / Sunday

Arguably the most competitive Minor League Baseball team rivalry in our state, the Fireflies and the Drive frequently clown each other on Twitter. Fingers crossed that these games are like that, IRL. #TBT to that time the Drive got salty about Cola getting Tebow over them. 🙃 Plus, there will be fireworks all weekend for the holiday.

✔ Harry Potter Night

📆 Saturday, May 26, 7:05 p.m.

🎟 tickets

Attention all Cola-wizards: Spirit Communications Park will transform into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for a themed night where we solemnly swear you’ll be up to no good. This event also falls on the MDW series vs. the Drive. Expecto Patronum, Drive.

✔ Independence Day Celebration

📆 Wednesday, July 4, 6:05 p.m.

🎟 tickets

Is there anything more American than watching the Fireflies on the Fourth of July, with an extra special fireworks spectacular afterwards to celebrate America’s 242nd birthday? Bruce Springsteen would approve.

✔ Celebrate the Soda City

📆 Saturday, August 11, 6:05 p.m.

🎟 tickets

In honor of the city we love, the Fireflies will wear a brand new, special jersey that fans voted on earlier this month. Which did you choose? We’re team Main Street Classic.

We’re also looking forward to:

✔ Halfway to Halloween | Saturday, April 21, 6:05 p.m. | Break out your Khaleesi + Jon Snow costumes from last year, because the ballpark is getting spooky.

✔ Mason’s Birthday Bash | Friday, June 29, 7:05 p.m. | Celebrate Mason’s big day with some of his best mascot friends, a pre-game birthday party for Kids Club kids, and fireworks after the game.

✔ 80s Night | Saturday, July 21, 6:05 p.m. | Girls Just Wanna Have Fun when the Fireflies throw it back, with iconic fads + music to relive some of your fav memories of the 80s. Nothing can Beat It. 🎶

While you’re marking your calendar and group chatting the schedule, check the ABCs of the Fireflies for what you can + can’t bring in the stadium, keywords to know, and where to listen in on the games.

See ya on the berm,

Sam
