Just over three weeks ago, Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) celebrated its brand new direct flight service to Miami (MIA) by hosting a gate party for passengers on the sold-out, inaugural flight. 🥂 But that’s just one of the pretty fly milestones CAE saw in 2019.

Here are 9 more achievements our airport saw last year:

New flight offerings:

  • American Airlines added a nonstop flight to LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in NYC during Summer 2019.
  • Delta Air Lines added a second nonstop flight to LGA, upping CAE’s LGA service offerings to three.
  • As mentioned above, American Airlines added a nonstop flight to Miami International Airport (MIA) in December, opening up the Caribbean to the Columbia region.

New airport amenities:

  • Red Eye Coffee Express opened in the connector in early 2019, offering locally-roasted Loveland Coffee + pastries from Crust Bakehouse and Tres Leches Bakery.
  • Mamava, a nursing pod for traveling mothers, was installed in August (National Breastfeeding Awareness Month) and has seen an average of 65 sessions/month.

By-the-numbers growth:

  • As of September 2019, CAE had seen 1,008,507 passengers since Jan. 1 – a 17% increase over YTD September 2018.
  • With upgraded lighting fixtures and HVAC system, CAE’s green energy initiatives generated over $458,081 worth of energy sales and savings.

Year-end data, as of Nov. 30, 2019:

  • Total passengers that flew out of CAE: 1,344,347
  • Total enplanements (people who start their trip at CAE): 667,546

While final passenger traffic numbers for all of 2019 won’t be available until later this month, it’s safe to say CAE has seen significant growth this year. We can’t wait to see what’s on the horizon in 2020.
