Alley-Oops we did it again 🏆
Congratulations to the Lady Gamecocks for winning the 2022 NCAA National Championship. The team defeated The University of Connecticut 64-49, bringing home another championship trophy Sunday night, and today we’re recapping this season’s highlights to see how we dribbled our way to the top.
The Gamecock women’s basketball team played 37 games, losing only two, scored a total of 2,623 points against their opponents, and averaged 70.9 points per game. At the end of the tournament, Aliyah Boston — SEC’s 2022 Player of the Year — referenced last year’s loss in the Final Four but cried happy tears this year as a National Champion in a post-game interview.
And now we’re ready to celebrate here in Soda City. Be sure to catch the Gamecock flag waving over the State House in honor of the win, and keep your eyes peeled for a city parade Mayor Rickenmann teased on his Instagram account.
Speaking of social media, a few days ago, celebrity alum Darius Rucker tweeted he would host a free concert on the Horseshoe if the team won the National Championship, and it seems like interim university president, Harris Pastides is holding him to it. And if you see us wearing the same championship t-shirt every day for the next month, no you didn’t.
In honor of this incredible team, let’s take a walk down memory lane and look at some of their award highlights for the 2021-2022 season.
