The proposed fixes to Malfunction Junction (a.k.a freeway-style ramps, wider frontage roads + possible longer ramps for merging) are said to make it easier for 160,000s car to commute on this section of the highway per day – a ~20,000 increase from the 141,000 that travel through Malfunction Junction today.
Construction of the $1.5 billion worth of road improvements – which have population increases in mind (By 2035 the Midland’s population in this area is expected to reach 1 million.) – will begin in 2019 + be finished in 2026, hopefully eliminating much of the traffic congestion through 2040.
