Columbia SC Pimento Cheese Passport in the wild at The War Mouth | photo by 6AM City

DYK Columbia is home to one of the oldest recorded recipes for pimento cheese? Printed in the 1912 cookbook A Friend in Need, it calls for a can of “pimentoes,” 1-2 cups of grated cheese, mayo + “a little finely chopped sour pickle.” Pimento Cheeseburgers also hail from Columbia; being served up since 1954.

With all this history, it makes sense that Experience Columbia SC made a Pimento Cheese Passport last year. And this lil’ invention is kind of a big deal. (Seriously, the passport even caught Food & Wine’s eye.)

How it works:

  • Download the passport + summon your appetite.
  • Collect stamps when you order pimento cheese from participating restaurants/bars.
  • Collect 10 stamps ➡️ get entered to win $50 toward a meal at the participating restaurant of your choice.

Where to get your stamps (and what to order):

  • The War Mouth | 1209 Franklin St. | Smashed Pimento Cheese Yukon Potatoes
  • Spotted Salamander | 1531 Richland St. | Pulled Brisket Pimento Cheese Sandwich
  • Terra | 100 State St., West Cola | Pimento Cheeseburger Pizza
  • The Whig | 1200 Main St. | Chipotle Pimento Cheese Fries
  • DiPrato’s | 342 Pickens St. | Signature Pimento Cheese
  • See the full list of participating restaurants here

Side note: The folks at Experience Columbia SC know that this list is just the start of where you can get your pimento cheese fix around town. Show us all the pimento cheese by tagging your photos with #RealColumbiaSC + #COLAtoday.
