City of Columbia flag

In early 2017, the city was abuzz with the news of replacing the current City of Columbia flag from one emblazoned with corn + cotton to a more contemporary, representative design.

540+ new flag designs were submitted, and 18 were chosen as the finalists by the North American Vexillological Association – experts on vexillology, a.k.a. the study of flags. 7,000+ Soda Citizens voted for their favorite submissions online in July, but we still don’t have a new flag.

City Councilman Howard Duvall, who spearheaded the project, says the city has been working behind-the-scenes with One Columbia + Columbia Design League to select the winning design with feedback from the public – and the process should be completed in early 2018.
