SEC lifts ban on alcohol sales
Last week, the SEC (Southeastern Conference in college football) lifted a ban on stadium-wide alcohol sales. Although the ban was lifted, the SEC is granting autonomy on alcohol sales to each school in the conference. What SEC schools have already made their decisions? Auburn University + the University of Alabama have both released statements announcing they do not intend on making the switch to alcohol sales.
Schools that currently serve stadium-wide alcohol, like Ohio State, have seen significant (65%) drops in alcohol-related incidents – but they say the best improvement has been game attendance + experience. So, if UofSC decides to begin alcohol sales, what will the rules + guidelines be? We did some digging, and here’s what we found:
- No vendors selling up and down stands
- Only beer + wine allowed – no liquor
- Drink limit for each transaction
- Alcohol must be in a cup
- Designated stop times for sales are required
What do y’all think? We asked last week on social media as soon as the news broke + here’s what some of our followers said:
“That doesn’t sound like a good idea to me. Just saying” @rbrazzell
“In Ray Tanner we trust” – @iamtimpatterson
“Hope they serve some @cottontownbrew” – @foodjackeats
“Will they sell it throughout the game or stop at halftime? UNLV used to sell through the whole game, and it was scary.” – Anna M.
“It will ruin the family friendly environment.” – David M.
“They will sneak it in anyways 😂” – @christianantley
