Spotted Salamander to open Main Street location

Spotted Salamander — a popular downtown lunch spot known for its southern-inspired specials — plans to open a second location at 1441 Main St., formerly occupied by Drip on Main.

About seven months ago, we asked our Instagram followers to Be the Broker and tell us what they’d like to see in the location. With over 100 responses, one stood out as @ajewelm commented — “@spottedsalamander 😍.”

The deal was brokered by Colliers, a real estate and investment firm that looked to bring a locally owned business to the space.

“Spotted Salamander is a Columbia fan favorite with loyal customers. We are excited to have them join our premier tenant base at 1441 Main” — Tommy Johnson, Colliers, Vice President.

🥪 Where will it be located?

Current plans are to renovate the space at 1441 Main St., including the outdoor patio and the inside corridor of the 1441 Main office building.

🥪 When will it open?

An exact date has not yet been determined, but plans are to open the new location sometime in October or early November. The restaurant plans to serve customers who work in the 1441 Main office building first, followed shortly after by a grand opening to the public.

Daily hours will be Mon.- Sat. 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The hours include an elevated presence at Soda City Market on Saturday mornings on the 1400 block on Main.

🥪 What’s on the menu?

For the first time, Spotted Salamander will serve breakfast + coffee, with items like baked goods, grits bowls, and greek yogurt bowls in the morning.

The lunch menu will feature items boxed to-go like salads, pressed sandwiches, a daily soup in the winter, and yes, they are figuring out how to serve the restaurant’s signature deviled eggs.

“Spotted Salamander’s menu offering will be unlike anything else currently offered on Main Street,” said Deena Snipes, Principal, Asset Management Glenfield Capital. “We welcome them to 1441 Main and look forward to them being a convenient and delicious amenity for our tenants and the Main Street community for a long time to come.”

This will be the Spotted Salamander’s third expansion. Originally started as a catering company, the restaurant opened at the corner of Richland and Pickens Streets in 2008 and added an additional dining area next door in 2016.
