Pour a cold ‘n frothy (if you’re reading this after 4 p.m.) and let’s discuss the history of S.C. beer.

Pre-2007 | Brewers in S.C. weren’t allowed to legally brew + sell beers above a 6.3% ABV financially limiting breweries

2007 | After beer advocacy group Pop the Cap (now S.C. Brewers Guild) fought for 2 years, S.C. Legislators lifted the brew + sell ABV laws to 17.6%.

2010 | S.C. breweries now allowed to give visiting customers samples of beer

2013-14 | Now legal for breweries to sell their beer directly to customers + to serve food

2018 | With all the improved laws, there are now nearly 48 S.C. breweries total – with 40+ having opened since 2007 and several more (hey, Cottontown Brew Lab 👋) predicted to open this year.
