It’s Carolina Women’s Physicians’ 10th birthday 🎈 – and to celebrate, the Lexington Medical Center physician practice is giving Midlands women tips for wellbeing in all decades of life.

20s | STDs

~20 million cases of sexually transmitted diseases occur each year; most under the age of 25. See a health care provider regularly to ensure you’re not missing any signs of STIs that could lead to health problems + infertility.

30s | Health

Women’s bodies are not as forgiving in their 30s. They’re at a higher risk for depression, stress and obesity. And, it’s more difficult to clear excess calories from alcohol and caffeine, which can result in lack of sleep. Get 8 hours of sleep; exercise 3-4 times/week + eat well.

40s | Perimenopause

The years leading up to menopause can be filled with irritability, memory changes, sleep problems + slower metabolism – but are all treatable with hormonal and non-hormonal methods. Eat a lot of protein and less carbs to avoid heart disease + diabetes.

50s | Depression and anxiety

Chronic and situational depression + anxiety are common – watch for symptoms like changes in appetite, shortened sleep cycles, weight gain and apathy, and treat with medicine and/or therapy. Remain engaged in long-time friendships, travel + exercise.
