One of my mom’s favorite things to say whenever she asks me an easy tech question is that she taught me how to use a spoon. To thank her for gifting me great spoon usage, I always try to show my appreciation by taking her somewhere nice on Mother’s Day (which is officially less than one week away).

Since waiting until the last minute means restaurants could be booked up + special events sold out – we have put together a guide to get you started on your Mother’s Day planning in Cola. This year, I’ll be taking my mom to Top of Carolina – because that brunch buffet: yum.

🍴Make sure mom eats well:

👯 Do an activity together:

  • Mother’s Day Art | Sat., May 11 | 3-5 p.m. | Painting with a Twist, 275 Harbison Blvd. | $35
  • Mother’s Day Paint Party | Sat., May 11 | 2- 4 p.m. | Harbison Recreation Center, 106 Hillpine Rd. | $20-$45
  • Bloom: For New and Expecting Mothers | Sat., May 11 | 9 a.m.-1 p.m. | Segra Park, 1640 Freed St. | $15-$50 | Brought to you by SC Moms Blog and the Columbia Fireflies, this is for new or expecting mothers to pamper themselves with brunch, educational resources, high-end giveaways + connections to new mothers.
  • Mother’s Day at Studio Cellar | Sun., May 12 | 12-8 p.m. | Studio Cellar, 912 Lady St. | $30

🛍 Buy her something nice:

  • For the mom who likes to be pampered. | Treat her to a mani/pedi and some relaxation time The Nail Barre or Paintbase.
  • For the mom who likes to take on new hobbies. | Sign her up for a workshop at Indie Grits or the Columbia Museum of Art.
  • For the mom who enjoys a good glass of wine. | Shell out for a nice bottle from Lula Drake so she can #treatherself.
  • For the sporty mom. | Check out the Fireflies schedule and buy tickets to an upcoming game.
  • For the mom with a sweet tooth. | Blue Flour Bakery is pulling out the stops for decorated Mother’s Day cookies.
  • For the mom who needs some “me time”. | Book her a staycation at boutique hotel Hotel Trundle – or if you really want to go above and beyond, get your mom a plane ticket for a weekend getaway to one of CAE airport’s nonstop destinations.
