140+ people applied to participate in Do Good Columbia’s workshop – a 2.5 day brainstorming session (hosted by Richland Library) on how to make Columbia’s three rivers easier to enjoy. Of the 140+ applicants, 60 people were chosen to form teams + present ideas to a panel of judges, who will select at least one project to implement in the next year.

Meanwhile, improvements to life surrounding the Broad, Saluda + Congaree Rivers have already begun with the construction of the Brookland development, expansion of Canalside + the Three Rivers Greenway, the Southern Lights laser installation (launching 2018) + the growing popularity of river activities.

Other potential improvement ideas that are being tossed around (and could possibly be chosen by the Do Good Columbia workshop judges to act on) include additional canoe + kayak put-ins, more benches + water fountains along the canal, riverfront restaurants + shopping (duh) and an even larger expansion of the Three Rivers Greenway.

The chosen Do Good Columbia project(s) will be funded by the Knight Foundation through Central Carolina Community Foundation + private donors.
