How much it costs to live on Main Street

Main Street is the place to be. Especially if you’re a new wine bar, piano lounge or coffee shop. But is living there affordable?

Overall cost of living in Columbia ranks a 68 out of an average 100, meaning: it’s cheap to live here, physically. But in the 5+ districts in downtown Columbia (not counting the dozens of additional districts across the Midlands), we wanted to see how rental property in the Main Street District ranks up.

We rounded up the current apartments + condos available for rent on Main Street proper (because, as you know, once you go off Main, where even ARE the boundaries?) and outlined them in price pockets, so you don’t have to.

Here’s what you can rent on Main Street (proper) for:

The median amount Main Street renters are paying for their apartment or condo is $1,000 per month – which isn’t bad compared to other cities. We’ll see how it stacks up compared to rent prices in other districts as part of our ongoing cost of living series.

The more you, know, Columbia. Happy ideal rent-chasing.
