As SC continues to reopen, West Columbia-based Nephron Pharmaceuticals is teaming up with One Medical a leading national digital health and primary care organization – to offer COVID-19 testing services to employees of Nephron + neighboring businesses. Nephron’s state-of-the-art lab will integrate with One Medical’s technology platform, capable of supporting a comprehensive workplace reentry COVID-19 testing program.

And this is just the latest step Nephron has taken to combat the pandemic.

Here’s a recap of exactly how Nephron Pharmaceuticals has been leading the charge against COVID-19 right here in the Midlands (with a reach far beyond SC):

Nephron received FDA approval to begin producing hand sanitizer in mid-March. They donated several 50-liter bags to local organizations and nonprofits, including the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Hospital, Serve and Connect, MIRCI + Homeless No More. 🧴

Nephron Pharmaceuticals received approval from the FDA to add an additional production line to keep up with the increase in demand. (During the month of March, Nephron shipped 193 million doses of medication used to treat COVID-19 symptoms – a 141% increase in doses the company typically produces in a month.) 📈

Gov. McMaster appointed Lou Kennedy, CEO and President of Nephron Pharmaceuticals, to the state’s coordinated COVID-19 advisory and recovery team in April. The team, part of accelerateSC, makes recommendations on economic revitalization plans in response to COVID-19. 💼

○ As COVID put a new spotlight on the lack of internet accessibility in rural areas, Kennedy has been working with lawmakers to secure funds to provide rural SC with reliable broadband. 💻 On June 1, all nine members of the SC congressional delegation signed a letter urging Congress to invest in this expansion.

While air travel has significantly declined worldwide, Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) saw a steady rise in cargo shipments in April, thanks largely in part to Nephronshipping out 25,000+ items (like hand sanitizer, respiratory drugs + nebulizers) to hundreds of hospitals across the nation. ✈️

○ When schools closed statewide in March, Nephron opened up a childcare facility to help out their employees. 👶 They ramped up hiring in the spring and still have several open jobs.
