West Columbia-based Nephron Pharmaceuticals recently announced that they’re producing a non-narcotic pain medication for post-op patients that could help end the opioid crisis and save lives.

Through a partnership with InfuTronix Solutions, LLC, Nephron is offering a cost-effective and efficient non-narcotic therapy solution for post-operative pain management. The Nimbus II PainPRO is a cutting-edge electronic pain pump that accurately controls the delivery of fluid from a source bag of non-narcotic medication to the surgical area.

Prescription opioids continue to play a major role in the recovery process for invasive surgical procedures like orthopedics, spine + abdominal procedures. As the opioid crisis grows, the search for alternative solutions is underway – and this new device is one of them.

According to data released by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in July, the opioid epidemic caused ~100,000 deaths nationwide from 2006-2012. According to data released in August from SCDHEC, the crisis claimed 816 lives in S.C. last year.
