Robert L. Caslen Jr. – the 29th president of the University of South Carolina

After two hours behind closed doors, Robert L. Caslen Jr. was elected the 29th president at UofSC in an 11-8 vote this past Friday, July 19. Caslen will assume the role on Sept. 16, making $650,000 annually.

Who is Bob Caslen?

  • A former three-star Army general and superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
  • He holds two master’s degrees: business administration from Long Island University and a Master of Science degree in industrial engineering from Kansas State University.
  • As of January 2019, he was hired on by the University of Central Florida in Orlando as their chief accountability officer.
  • He is married with three sons (of which are a captain in the Army, a firefighter, and an FBI agent) and has four grandchildren.
