A federal judge ordered local utility company Carolina Water Services to stop polluting the lower Saluda River with its wastewater by April 2018.
The discharge pollutes the waters of Saluda Shoals Park, a popular public area for swimming, boating + fishing. Last summer, signs warned park patrons to avoid swimming or wading due to threat of illness.
The company was also fined $1.5 million for its failure to connect to a regional sewer system.
