Meet S.C.’s only Swing Suite, headed to The Venue on Main 🏌‍

Remember when we asked you to fill in the blank for “What if Cola had _____?” We’re following up with your most popular ideas next week, but – spoiler alert – the #1 idea was a Topgolf.

A ton of you wanted a driving range in the sky to make its way into Soda City – and now, it’s all happening. Sort of.

Topgolf announced Wednesday that it will launch South Carolina’s first Swing Suite right here on Columbia’s Main St. this Fall. S.C.’s location will be called Venue on Main Topgolf Swing Suite (taking over the back space of the Venue on Main building, behind Michael’s Cafe, at 1620 Main St.).

Swing Suite is a subsidiary of the Topgolf brand, with only 15 locations in the country. Locations open now include big cities like Boston, Houston + Detroit; but also smaller markets like Atlantic City + Farmington, Pa. Locations coming soon include Atlanta… and a bunch of mid-sized markets we’ve never heard of, like Springfield, Ma., Beaumont, Texas + Mashantucket, Ct.

How it works:

⛳ It’s all indoors, with virtual golf simulator suites

⛳ Columbia’s location will have 5 suites, each able to hold up to 8 players

⛳ Rent a suite by the hour (Detroit’s Swing Suite rates are $50/hour weekdays/Sun. + $80/hour weekends)

⛳ Golf clubs + balls included (no personal equipment permitted)

21+

⛳ Comfy lounge seating + TVs

⛳ Full food + bar service during dining hours

⛳ People rent them for fun, but also for an out-of-the-box business meeting location, and for private golfing practice to perfect their swing

Have you ever been to a Swing Suite? What’d you think?

And could this mean that we’re on track to getting a real, outdoor Topgolf like our friends in Charlotte (opened last summer), Greenville (opening Summer 2019), Myrtle Beach (opening early 2019), Atlanta (opened in 2014 🙄), Nashville (opened Fall 2017) + beyond?

Here’s what a few of you said:

🏌‍ “Topgolf is such a blast! These swing suite simulators are very close to the real thing. Awesome way to improve your game while having fun with friends and family.” -@golftripp

🏌‍ “An actual top golf in Greenville, Charlotte and Myrtle Beach but just a simulator in Columbia. Maybe one day we can get on that level!” -@b_mealallday

🏌‍ “Yes, yes I did [see the news about Swing Suite], but man oh man a full facility down on Shop or Bluff road would make Columbia truly famously hot and surprisingly coooool. Football weekends would be tailgating before the games all week, and golf after.” -Eddie

🏌‍ “The Metro is on a Roll!” -Shayla

What do you think – are you happy with a Swing Suite? Could this lead to us getting a Topgolf? Drop us a comment on Instagram or Facebook or reply to this email. Share on. 👇

I’ve never been to an actual Topgolf, but it looks like a fun happy hour spot or company outing. But IMHO, I think a Swing Suite is actually a better call for Columbia, where it gets unbearably hot for outdoor activity most of the year – even if said activity is rooftop golfing (with drinks).

Let us know about your experience at a Swing Suite – we can’t wait to try it out this Fall. And you know we’ll keep you updated as soon as an opening date is announced.
